A city with every kind of wall
Chichester is one of the most varied places we work. Inside the old city walls there are Georgian townhouses, listed buildings and flint cottages. Out in Summersdale, Parklands and Whyke there are big interwar and postwar family homes. And on the edges of the city, places like Graylingwell and Roussillon Park are full of homes built in the last twenty years.
That mix matters when you’re putting a TV on the wall. Newer homes tend to be plasterboard, which is quick to work with and good for hiding cables. Period properties are often solid brick or flint, with uneven walls and chimney breasts that need more care. We look at the wall first and tell you what’s realistic before we drill anything.
It’s the same with reception. Most of Chichester gets a good Freeview signal from the Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight, but tall trees, neighbouring buildings and the odd awkward roof can still get in the way.

Conservation area
Much of the city centre is a conservation area, with many listed buildings. Dishes and outside cabling need more thought there, and listed homes may need consent. We always suggest the least visible option.

Period walls
Soft old brick, lath and plaster and uneven flint all need the right fixings, and a bit more time. We don’t rush them.

New-build estates
Newer homes are often plasterboard on studs or dot and dab. Great for hiding cables, but the fixings have to suit a heavy TV.

Parking and access
City-centre streets can be tight. Let us know if you’re in a permit zone or access is tricky, and we’ll plan the visit around it.

Close enough to come and look
From our base in Bracklesham Bay, Chichester is a straight run up through Birdham, so it’s easy for us to pop in, look at a wall or a roof and give you a proper answer. That also covers the villages just outside the city that sit on our Google profile: Appledram, Donnington and Hunston.

Often, yes, but the rules are tighter. The usual answer is a spot that can’t be seen from the street, such as the back or side of the house. If your home is listed, check with Chichester District Council first.
Yes, with care. Listed building consent can apply to work that affects the character of the building, so if you’re unsure, check with the council before booking. We keep fixings and cable runs as discreet as possible.
