A dish only works if it’s aimed at exactly the right spot

UK satellite TV comes from satellites parked high above the equator, off to the south-east of us. A dish has to be aimed at them precisely. Knock it a fraction out of line and the picture starts to break up, usually in the worst weather, when you most want to be indoors watching something.

That’s why we take the alignment seriously. We fix the dish so it won’t shift, set it up properly, and check every room that needs a feed gets a clean signal before we leave.

We also think about where the dish goes. Round here that often means working around trees, a neighbour’s extension or a low bungalow roofline. In a conservation area it can mean finding a spot that can’t be seen from the street at all.

Satellite jobs

What we can do with your dish

Most satellite jobs are one of these four.

01

Freesat setups

Freesat gives you satellite channels with no monthly subscription. You need a dish, the right cable and a Freesat box or a TV with Freesat built in. We set up the dish side and get it tuned in.

02

Moving a dish

A new roof, fresh render or an extension often means the dish has to come down. We take it off, find a new spot that still sees the satellite, and refit it.

03

Realigning after wind

A dish pushed by a storm won’t always look any different from the ground, but the picture will tell you. We realign it and tighten the fixings so it stays put.

04

Removing old dishes

Old dishes from long-gone subscriptions are worth taking down. We remove the dish and its cables and tidy up the wall.

Inside the house

Getting satellite to more than one room

The dish is only half the job. The other half is the cable run inside.

01

Extra satellite points

Each satellite box needs its own feed from the dish. If you want satellite in a second or third room, we run the cables and fit the right LNB on the dish to supply them.

02

Multiswitch systems

For bigger homes, or where lots of rooms need satellite and Freeview, a multiswitch shares the signals cleanly from one dish and one aerial.

03

Tidying cable runs

Cables clipped across the front of a house or squeezed through window frames are a common sight. We reroute them so they’re neat and properly weatherproofed.

04

Blocks of flats

One dish for the whole building rather than one per flat. See communal TV and IRS systems.

Worth knowing

Dishes, conservation areas and listed buildings

Most homes can put up a dish without planning permission, but there are limits, and they’re tighter in conservation areas and on listed buildings. Central Chichester, Bosham, West Wittering and Itchenor all have conservation areas.

If your home is listed, or you’re not sure, check with Chichester District Council before booking. We’ll always suggest the least visible spot that still gets a clean signal, such as the side or back of the house, or a lower position below the roofline.

TV installation, new digital aerial, cable rerouting and disposal of the previous system

"As I am a widowed older person I was cautious in contacting Cox AV to look at my TV and aerial. I needn’t have worried. He was quick, his work good… I would not hesitate to recommend him. Thank you Lee."

"Lee did a great job mounting my TV. He was friendly and efficient and went out of his way to help with all aspects. I would 100% use him again."

FAQs

Satellite dish questions

Sky usually sends its own engineer for a new subscription. Where we help is everything around it: moving an existing dish, realigning it, adding extra satellite points, tidying the cabling or taking an old dish down. If you’re not sure whether it’s a job for us, call and ask.
It depends on where it’s going and how far the cables need to run. Tell us what you need, ideally with a photo, and we’ll give you a clear quote before anything is booked.
Usually not for a single standard dish on a house, but the rules are stricter in conservation areas and on listed buildings. If either applies to you, check with Chichester District Council first.
Heavy rain weakens the satellite signal a little. If the dish is slightly out of line there’s no margin left, so the picture breaks up. A properly aligned dish usually rides through bad weather. If yours doesn’t, get it checked.
Yes. We remove the dish, its bracket and the old cables, and tidy up the wall.
